Free women’s health camps will be organised simultaneously at 85 locations across Pune and nearby regions on May 9 as part of the Jan Sehat Setu campaign aimed at improving access to healthcare services for women and pregnant mothers. The initiative, which was launched on April 10 in the presence of Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, focuses on providing accessible and preventive healthcare support through community-based medical outreach programmes. Organisers said the second monthly phase of the campaign would cover several areas including Viman Nagar, Kothrud, Hadapsar, Hinjewadi and Bhor.
According to the organisers, women attending the camps will receive free outpatient consultations, antenatal screening services and general gynaecological check-ups. The camps are intended to encourage early diagnosis and preventive care, particularly among women who may otherwise have limited access to specialised healthcare facilities. The campaign is being supported by multiple medical and social organisations, including the National Medicos Organisation, Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI), Pune Gynaecology Society, Rotary Club, ESIC, MY Bharat, Jain International Organisation, Asian Chamber of Hospitality Industry, Maharashtra Gynaecological Association and Vishva Kalyan Bharti Foundation.
Organisers stated that the first phase of the initiative, held in April at more than 100 locations in Pune, benefited thousands of women through free screening and treatment services. They added that the positive response from doctors, patients, volunteers and ASHA workers demonstrated growing public acceptance of the concept of “Medical Social Responsibility.”The idea behind the campaign is to encourage doctors to dedicate one day every month — specifically the 9th day — to providing free medical services.

Organisers compared the initiative to the government’s Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan, which focuses on healthcare support for pregnant women.During the launch event in April, Mansukh Mandaviya said the medical profession carried a broader responsibility towards maintaining public health and social welfare. Drawing parallels with the Jan Aushadhi Scheme, he said the Jan Sehat Setu campaign aims to bring healthcare services closer to ordinary citizens in a more accessible and affordable manner.
