Police in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, have registered an FIR against 113 individuals, including Rasra Municipal Council Chairman Vinay Shankar Jaiswal (BSP) and journalist Shiva Ji Bagle, for allegedly attacking Mahamandaleshwar Kaushlendra Giri, head of Shri Nath Baba Math, on Monday. Five arrests have been made, with ongoing efforts to apprehend others.
Incident Details: A video circulating on social media showed a confrontation at the math during Shravan ritual preparations. Giri’s complaint alleges Jaiswal’s group entered the premises, raised slogans, and attacked him after he objected, causing injuries. Jaiswal claims he was inspecting a Ramleela Maidan beautification project and was assaulted by Giri, fearing for his life.
Police Response: Superintendent of Police Omvir Singh cited a dispute between the Ramleela committee and the math as the trigger. The FIR, under BNS sections, charges 13 named and 100 unidentified individuals with incitement and violence. The Additional SP (North) is probing related defamatory campaigns.
