The family of Aditya Anand, who has been named as the main accused in a recent violent workers’ protest in Noida, has defended him, saying he was only advocating for fair wages for labourers and was not involved in any wrongdoing. His brother, Akash Anand, questioned whether demanding basic rights for workers should be treated as a crime, adding that his sibling had always been inclined towards social work.
According to Akash, Aditya Anand, a BTech graduate from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur, had been in regular contact with his family until recently. He recalled that their last conversation, held about a week before the incident came to light, was routine in nature—Aditya enquired about their mother’s health, asked about household needs, and discussed everyday family matters without any indication of the events that were to follow.
The situation changed abruptly when Aditya’s name surfaced on social media in connection with the protest case. Akash said the family was shocked to see circulating images and claims that Aditya was absconding. Soon after, he said, multiple news channels began contacting them, seeking confirmation and details, which further intensified the family’s distress and confusion over the allegations.

Akash further stated that his brother had become associated around 2019 with Mazdoor Bigul, described as a Left-leaning organisation that works to spread awareness among urban labourers about their rights. He said Aditya’s involvement with such groups was driven by a desire to contribute to social causes, particularly issues related to wages and working conditions.
As the investigation continues, the family maintains that Aditya’s intentions were misinterpreted and insists that his actions were rooted in concern for labour welfare. Authorities, however, have not released further details on the exact charges, while the case remains under active inquiry following the reported protest-related violence in Noida.
