Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary approach for the recent GST rate rationalisation, stating it will significantly reduce the tax burden on citizens.
On Wednesday, the GST Council approved major changes to the indirect tax system, streamlining rates to two slabs of 5% and 18%, effective from September 22, coinciding with the start of Navratri.
Fadnavis highlighted Maharashtra’s leading role in GST contributions and described the reforms as critical second-generation changes. “Thanks to PM Modi’s farsighted vision, some slabs have been eliminated, easing the tax burden on common citizens,” he said.
