Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on December 13, 2025, that the state government will relocate high-frequency radar centres from Dahisar and Juhu to facilitate long-pending redevelopment projects in these prime Mumbai suburbs. The decision addresses restrictions imposed by the radars' operational requirements, which had stalled housing societies' renewal efforts for years.
Fadnavis stated the government is willing to bear relocation costs and provide alternative land for the radar facilities, currently managed by central agencies. Discussions with relevant authorities are underway to finalise suitable sites outside densely populated areas while ensuring no compromise to aviation or meteorological functions.
In Dahisar, over 100 housing societies have been awaiting redevelopment approvals due to height and construction limits near the radar. Similar constraints affected Juhu, home to high-value properties and celebrity residences. Residents and developers have long demanded relocation to unlock land potential and improve living conditions.

The announcement signals relief for thousands of flat owners seeking modern amenities through society redevelopment under Maharashtra's cluster policy. Fadnavis emphasised prioritising urban renewal in space-constrained Mumbai without impacting critical infrastructure.
Implementation timelines depend on central approvals, but the state's proactive stance is expected to accelerate the process. The move aligns with broader efforts to decongest Mumbai and enhance real estate development in suburban pockets.
This development is poised to revitalise Dahisar and Juhu, potentially transforming ageing buildings into contemporary complexes while maintaining essential radar operations elsewhere.
