A devastating explosion at Limbani Salt Industries in Maharashtra’s Palghar district claimed the life of one worker and left four others injured on Thursday evening, sending shockwaves through the local community. The incident, which occurred around 7:30 PM, has raised serious concerns about safety protocols at chemical manufacturing facilities in the region.
According to Vivekanand Kadam, chief of the Palghar District Disaster Management Cell, the blast was triggered during a highly reactive process involving the mixing of metal and acid. Five workers were present at the site when the explosion occurred. One worker was killed instantly, while two others sustained severe burns and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they remain in critical condition under intensive care. The remaining two workers, positioned farther from the blast’s epicenter, escaped with minor injuries and are reported to be stable.
Emergency response teams, including the fire brigade and disaster management personnel, acted swiftly to secure the site and prevent further damage. The local police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion, with officials indicating that a formal offense will likely be registered once the authorities complete their preliminary report. Initial findings suggest that a lapse in safety measures may have contributed to the tragedy, though a detailed probe is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances.
