A former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, Amitabh Thakur, and his wife, Nutan Thakur, have been booked in a high-profile case involving allegations of forgery, cheating, and misuse of official position tied to a decades-old industrial plot allotment in Deoria, Uttar Pradesh. The couple, now at the center of a brewing controversy, has dismissed the accusations as a “political vendetta” aimed at silencing their activism against government misconduct.
The case, lodged at Talkatora police station in Lucknow, stems from a complaint by Alok Kumar Srivastava, who alleges that in 1999, Nutan Thakur fabricated documents, including affidavits and identity papers, to secure an industrial plot, identified as Plot No. B-2, through the District Industries Centre in Deoria. At the time, Amitabh Thakur, then serving as Deoria’s Superintendent of Police, is accused of leveraging his authority to manipulate the allotment process, ensuring the plot was unlawfully granted to his family. The complaint further claims the couple used forged sale deeds, transfer documents, and bank challans to falsely establish ownership.
Srivastava’s complaint invokes multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for cheating), 471 (using forged documents), and 120B (criminal conspiracy). It also calls for confiscation of the plot, cancellation of related documents, and recovery of any financial benefits gained. Due to the alleged misuse of police powers, Srivastava has urged a thorough probe by agencies like the CBCID, SIT, or CBI to ensure transparency.

The Thakurs, in a defiant joint statement, labeled the FIR as “completely politically motivated,” arguing it is retaliation for their outspoken criticism of senior government officials over the years. They claim the case, rooted in a 25-year-old civil dispute, has been unjustly escalated into a criminal matter. “This is a clear case of vendetta,” they stated, expressing confidence in proving their innocence with evidence.
The controversy has sparked debate about the misuse of political influence and the targeting of whistleblowers. As the investigation unfolds, the Thakurs’ claims of political persecution will face scrutiny, while authorities probe the veracity of the allegations. The case could have far-reaching implications, potentially exposing systemic issues in Uttar Pradesh’s administrative and law enforcement circles.
