In a dramatic breakthrough, the Delhi Police’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has arrested Jameel Ahmad, a 40-year-old event manager from Mumbai’s Film City, for allegedly masterminding a massive interstate drug trafficking syndicate.
The arrest, made on May 8 in Pinangwan village, Nuh, Haryana, ends a six-year manhunt linked to a 2019 seizure of 500kg of cannabis in Delhi.
The case began in June 2019 when police intercepted a truck at Kashmere Gate, seizing 500kg of ganja and arresting three associates—Aslam Khan and Mausam Khan from Nuh, and Jakam Khan from Alwar, Rajasthan. The trio named Ahmad as the orchestrator who sent them to Odisha to source the drugs. While his associates were chargesheeted and face trial, Ahmad vanished, evading capture despite a court proclamation and a rejected anticipatory bail plea.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Apoorva Gupta, Ahmad fled to Mumbai post-2019, blending into the event management industry at Film City. He dodged authorities by frequently changing phone numbers and limiting hometown visits to brief meetings with his children. A tip-off led to a swift ANTF operation, culminating in his arrest.
Interrogation revealed Ahmad sourced the cannabis from two Odisha-based suppliers, Gabriel and Paul. Gabriel was previously arrested in 2020 for a separate Rs 17 crore cannabis case in Gajapati district. Ahmad himself has a history of charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and the Excise Act in Haryana.
The arrest marks a key victory in Delhi Police’s zero-tolerance drug crackdown under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. Investigations continue to dismantle the remaining network.
