A 25-year-old rowdy-sheeter from Hyderabad, Abdul Altaf, was arrested by Panaji police for a violent assault at Casino Carnival in Campal, which left one security guard dead and another injured. The incident, occurring in the early hours of Thursday, followed a heated altercation, police said.
Superintendent of Police (North) Rahul Gupta reported that Altaf, a resident of Misri Ganj, Charminar, used a wooden rod with an iron clamp, extracted from a staircase, to attack multiple security personnel at around 3:10 a.m.
The assault resulted in the death of Dheeru Sharma, 33, from Satna, Madhya Pradesh, who succumbed to his injuries en route to Goa Medical College and Hospital. Another guard, Satyam Gaonkar, 27, from Shiroda, South Goa, sustained a head injury and is receiving treatment.

Altaf, identified as a history-sheeter with a criminal record at Mailardevpally Police Station in Hyderabad, attempted to flee Goa but was apprehended at Dabolim Airport. A forensic team has examined the crime scene, and the Panaji police are in the process of registering an FIR. Gupta noted that the attack appeared intentional, with the weapon used indicating an intent to kill.
The swift response by the police, triggered by a distress call, led to the formation of a special team to track and arrest Altaf. Further investigation is underway to uncover the motive behind the assault, with authorities probing whether prior disputes or criminal affiliations played a role. This incident has raised concerns about security at popular tourist spots in Goa, prompting calls for stricter safety measures.
