A private double-decker bus traveling from Gorakhpur to Delhi overturned on the Lucknow-Ayodhya highway near Dharouli village late Wednesday night, injuring 30 passengers. The accident, attributed to heavy rain and slippery roads, caused chaos as the driver lost control of the sleeper bus, according to police reports.
Villagers, hearing the passengers’ cries for help, rushed to the scene and began rescuing those trapped inside the wreckage. Police and administrative officials arrived promptly, extracting all injured passengers within an hour and transporting them to Ram Sanehi Ghat Community Health Centre (CHC). CHC Superintendent Dr. Amresh Verma reported that 30 passengers received treatment, with two critically injured individuals transferred to the district hospital for advanced care.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Anurag Singh and Circle Officer Jatashankar Mishra oversaw the operation, using a JCB machine to clear the bus and restore traffic flow on the highway. Additional Superintendent of Police Vikas Chandra Tripathi confirmed no fatalities occurred, emphasizing the administration’s swift response in providing medical care and managing traffic disruptions.

Officials cited heavy rainfall as the primary cause, urging drivers and passengers to exercise caution on wet roads. The incident follows a pattern of accidents in the region, with a source alleging the driver may have consumed alcohol at a roadside eatery, though this remains unconfirmed by authorities. Investigations are ongoing to determine the precise circumstances of the crash.
