Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar officially inaugurated the second loop of the Hebbal flyover on January 1, 2026, a pivotal infrastructure enhancement specifically engineered to mitigate persistent traffic bottlenecks for commuters accessing Kempegowda International Airport as well as residents and travelers in the northern precincts of Bengaluru, including areas like Yelahanka, Jakkur, and Sahakarnagar.
Shivakumar underscored the Bangalore Development Authority's landmark initiatives coinciding with its 50th anniversary, prominently featuring ongoing land acquisition for the extensive 120-km Bengaluru Business Corridor, wherein affected farmers are entitled to receive 35 percent of the subsequently developed commercial land as equitable compensation, supplemented by monetary payments and provisions for establishing small townships to support displaced communities.
Among the forthcoming developments outlined are a sophisticated 1.5-km tunnel road in the Hebbal vicinity, construction of an additional flyover adjacent to Mekhri Circle, and the establishment of a comprehensive elevated roadway linking Tumakuru Road to KR Puram paralleling the Outer Ring Road, all financed independently by the state government notwithstanding the absence of central funding allocations.

In a separate site inspection on the same day, Shivakumar assessed progress on the Rs 500-crore, 250-metre skydeck initiative situated near Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout in western Bengaluru, concurrently reviewing advancements on a railway underpass at Challaghatta alongside other BDA-executed road undertakings, engaging in detailed consultations with officials regarding land availability, architectural viability, airspace restrictions imposed by aviation authorities, and projected completion timelines.
Confronting ongoing land disputes with Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises concerning the requisite no-objection certificate, Shivakumar reaffirmed the administration's determination to pivot toward alternative parcels owned by the BDA that fully comply with Airports Authority of India stipulations, emphatically asserting the government's authority to surmount any impediments and proceed with the project unhindered.
