A standout engineering marvel of the project is Asia’s longest elevated wildlife corridor—a 12-km six-lane structure through Rajaji National Park that includes six dedicated animal underpasses and noise barriers to ensure safe passage for elephants and other wildlife. The motorway also pioneers green mobility by reserving 10 per cent of parking bays exclusively for electric vehicles, while rest areas will feature solar lighting, food courts, ATMs, PUC centres, and medical aid rooms. Three major modern parking facilities are being developed in east Delhi near Geeta Colony, Gandhi Nagar, and the District Magistrate’s office to support increased traffic flow.
The trial opening of the Akshardham–Baghpat section, which had been ready for over six months, was reportedly delayed on instructions from the Prime Minister’s Office to enable a grand inauguration of the entire corridor. Officials say the stretch will immediately divert thousands of vehicles heading towards Ghaziabad, Noida, Meerut, and beyond, significantly decongesting the existing Delhi-Meerut Motorway and inner-city roads. Commuters using the route during the trial period have already reported travel time savings of up to 45 minutes compared to parallel arterial roads.
Once completed, the Delhi-Dehradun Motorway will not only boost tourism and trade between the national capital and Uttarakhand’s administrative hub but also provide seamless connectivity to pilgrimage centres like Haridwar and Rishikesh. It forms a vital link in the Bharatmala Pariyojana network and is expected to spur economic development along the corridor through new logistics hubs and industrial clusters.

With construction now in the final stretch and trial operations yielding positive feedback, authorities are confident that by early 2026, travellers will finally experience one of India’s most ambitious and eco-sensitive greenfield motorways—transforming a historically arduous mountain route into one of the fastest and safest interstate corridors in northern India.
