Jal Shakti Minister C R Paatil led a transformative cleanliness drive along the Yamuna River at Kalindi Kunj in Delhi, hailing the Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 campaign as a “sacred resolve” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Joined by Minister of State V Somanna and numerous volunteers, Paatil spearheaded the ‘Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath, Shramdaan’ initiative, organized by the National Mission for Clean Ganga. The event, coinciding with Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay’s birth anniversary, saw participants pledge to uphold cleanliness, blending cultural faith with environmental stewardship.
Paatil emphasized that river conservation, under Modi’s leadership, transcends administrative duty to become a societal mission. “Rejuvenating our rivers is essential for India’s bright future,” he stated, invoking Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of Swatantrata (freedom) and Swachhata (cleanliness) as guiding lights.
The campaign, focused on mass mobilization, saw 139 District Ganga Committees and two municipalities join efforts to clean the Ganga and its tributaries, with each district aiming to engage 10,000 participants through rallies, awareness camps, and drives. Paatil lauded the widespread participation, noting, “Cleanliness is the soul of our civilization and culture.”
Significant progress in Yamuna rejuvenation was highlighted, with nine of ten major projects completed, including advanced sewage treatment plants at Okhla, Kondli, Rithala, and Coronation Pillar. Ongoing efforts include regular riverbank cleaning, water recycling, and ecological restoration to ensure sustainable outcomes.
The initiative drew support from diverse institutions, including the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Amity University, Zakir Husain College, PGDAV College, IMS College, Sunbreeze School, and Government Boys School of Srinivaspuri, alongside civil society groups like YSS Foundation and Sakshambhoomi Foundation.
