The much-awaited 82-km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut stretch of the Namo Bharat Corridor is set to become fully operational, significantly reducing travel time between Delhi and Meerut. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the remaining sections of the corridor on February 22, alongside the launch of the 23-km Meerut Metro network featuring 13 stations. The project is being implemented by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC).
The pending stretches between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar (5 km) and Meerut South to Modipuram (21 km) are now ready for operations. Once fully functional, the corridor will enhance connectivity between Delhi, Ghaziabad, Noida, Meerut and Gurugram, offering substantial relief to daily commuters. Authorities have indicated that attention will soon shift to the upcoming Delhi-Gurugram-SNB corridor under the Namo Bharat network.
The Meerut Metro project traces its origins to a detailed project report prepared by Rail India Technical and Economic Services (RITES). The foundation stone was laid in March 2019, and the first trial run between Meerut South and Meerut Central was successfully conducted in January 2025. The network comprises nine elevated stations and three underground stations, with Modipuram Depot serving as a key operational hub for the corridor.

Designed for speed and efficiency, the Meerut Metro will operate at a maximum speed of 135 km/h, with an operational speed of 120 km/h, making it among the fastest metro systems in the country. Trains are expected to run every 5–10 minutes during peak hours and every 10–15 minutes during off-peak hours. Services are likely to operate from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM on weekdays and Saturdays, and from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM on Sundays.
One of the major highlights of the project is seamless integration with the Namo Bharat rapid rail service, enabling passengers to travel between Delhi and Meerut using a single ticket. The corridor is expected to cut travel time to approximately 55 minutes, offering comfortable seating, modern amenities and a streamlined ticketing system. Officials believe the project will not only ease congestion but also accelerate economic growth and urban development across the region.
