Several schools and colleges in Delhi have shifted classes online, cancelled activities and postponed examinations scheduled for October 10 amid security concerns surrounding a proposed protest at Jantar Mantar. The decisions follow anticipated restrictions at several Delhi Metro stations, raising concerns about students’ safety and the movement of commuters across the capital. Educational institutions have issued notices to parents and students, announcing changes to academic schedules and other activities to minimise disruption.
Sardar Patel Vidyalaya has announced that classes for students from Classes 6 to 12 will be conducted online on Saturday. The school cited extensive barricading in the New Delhi area and concerns about student safety. It has also discontinued its stay-back facility for Friday and postponed the inauguration of its Activity Week, which was scheduled for Saturday. A revised date for the event will be announced later.
Raghubir Singh Junior Modern School has rescheduled its parent-teacher meeting planned for Saturday, which was intended to discuss students’ report cards. The school said parents would be informed about the revised schedule soon. Meanwhile, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Mehta Vidyalaya on Kasturba Gandhi Marg has cancelled sports day practice and enrichment classes for students of Classes 9 to 12 scheduled for Saturday. The school cited the proposed Jantar Mantar protest and the need to prioritise students’ safety.

At the college level, Bharati Vidyapeeth’s College of Engineering in Paschim Vihar has postponed its mid-term examinations scheduled for Saturday to Monday. The institution cited anticipated restrictions on entry and exit gates at several metro stations and possible disruption of services. According to the college notice, the decision followed directions from the dean of the University School of Information, Communication and Technology at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, along with the Joint Commissioner of Police, Transport Range, Delhi. Examination timings will remain unchanged on the revised date.
The Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology in Rohini has also postponed its mid-term examinations scheduled for Saturday to October 12. The institute said the decision followed communication from the Delhi Police about anticipated metro restrictions. The revised schedule was approved by the dean of USICT, GGSIPU, and the BTech Programme Coordination Committee. Department heads have been instructed to inform faculty members and students about the changes.
The Delhi Police had requested the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to close entry and exit gates at 57 metro stations from 9 pm on Friday until further notice. The request was made in view of the proposed protest at Jantar Mantar and concerns about possible movement towards sensitive locations. The anticipated restrictions have prompted educational institutions to reassess their schedules, with further updates expected from schools and colleges as the situation develops.
