Delhi Police has dismissed viral social media claims alleging that the Commissioner of Police was granted detention powers under the National Security Act (NSA) specifically to suppress the ongoing CJP protests. In an official statement shared on its verified X account, the police clarified that the claims were misleading and urged the public not to circulate or rely on unverified information regarding the matter.
According to the statement, misinformation was being widely shared online suggesting that the enhanced powers had been granted solely in response to the ongoing demonstrations. The Delhi Police categorically denied this claim, stating that the narrative linking the powers to the CJP protests was incorrect. The force emphasised the importance of verifying information through official sources before sharing it on social media.
The police also appealed to citizens to exercise caution while consuming and forwarding content online, warning that the spread of false or misleading information could create unnecessary confusion during a sensitive period. Authorities reiterated that official updates regarding law enforcement measures and public safety would continue to be communicated through verified government and police channels.

The clarification comes amid heightened public attention surrounding the ongoing CJP protests and the Monsoon Session of Parliament, during which security arrangements have been strengthened across the national capital. Delhi Police has also issued traffic advisories and deployed additional personnel in several areas to manage movement and maintain public order during the protests and parliamentary proceedings.
The National Security Act, 1980, allows preventive detention in specified circumstances to safeguard national security and maintain public order. However, the Delhi Police statement did not announce any new or protest-specific powers, instead focusing on correcting the misinformation circulating online regarding the Commissioner's authority under the Act.
By issuing the clarification, the Delhi Police sought to dispel speculation surrounding the viral claims and reinforce confidence in official communication. The force urged the public to avoid sharing unverified posts and to depend on information released through authorised government and police platforms for accurate updates on the ongoing situation in the national capital.
