A tragic fire claimed the lives of a Delhi Metro official and two members of his family in northwest Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar on Tuesday. The victims have been identified as 45-year-old Ajay Vimal, an Assistant Section Engineer (Signalling & Telecom) with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), his wife Neelam (38), and their 10-year-old daughter Jahnvi.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire may have been triggered by an electrical short circuit in a room heater. Police received a PCR call at 2:39 am reporting a major blaze in the fifth-floor flat of Metro Apartments, located opposite Majlis Park Metro Station in Mukundpur, which houses several Delhi Metro employees.
Authorities said the in-house fire-fighting system was activated immediately, helping contain the fire before Delhi Fire Service tenders arrived. Despite swift action, the three family members were found in the master bedroom with fatal burn injuries, and could not be saved.

In a statement, DMRC confirmed the loss of their colleague and expressed condolences. Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive Director of Corporate Communication, stated that the organization is fully cooperating with police and remains committed to supporting the bereaved family.
The Delhi Police are continuing the investigation to confirm the exact cause of the fire. Meanwhile, neighbors and colleagues of the Vimal family have expressed shock, describing the incident as a heartbreaking loss for the local community and the DMRC family.
