Delhi’s Vasant Enclave area witnessed an assault on a serving Indian Army Brigadier, his wife, and their son, an IIT Delhi graduate, following an altercation over alleged public drinking in a residential neighbourhood. The incident, which occurred on April 11 around 10 p.m. after dinner, has triggered a police investigation and prompted senior officials to step in, with Delhi Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu expressing deep concern and ordering enhanced security for the family.
In a post on X, the Delhi L-G said he was “deeply concerned” about the incident and had personally spoken with the injured officer to inquire about his condition and well-being. He also stated that he had directed the Delhi Police Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Police to ensure a swift and thorough investigation, with strict action against those responsible. The L-G further confirmed that full security arrangements had been ordered for the officer and his family.
Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) in the case and taken cognisance of alleged delays and lapses in the initial response. Preliminary investigation has identified the principal accused as Satinder Kumar, a resident of Mehram Nagar, who is reportedly associated with an aviation company. Authorities are continuing efforts to examine the sequence of events and determine the role of others involved in the assault.

According to officials, the confrontation began when the Brigadier and his son stepped out for a walk after dinner and noticed two individuals sitting inside a parked white Mercedes car allegedly consuming alcohol. When the officer objected, an argument broke out between the two sides, which quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.
The situation, as described in the complaint, intensified when additional individuals allegedly arrived at the scene in separate vehicles and joined the attack on the Brigadier and his son. The family has claimed that despite calling the police control room (PCR), there was a delay in response, leaving them vulnerable during the escalation of the incident.
The Brigadier’s wife has stated that initial police assistance was not immediate and that action in the case began only after intervention through defence channels. She described the sequence of events as a dispute over public drinking that escalated unexpectedly, resulting in an assault. Authorities have reiterated that the investigation is ongoing, with a focus on ensuring accountability and maintaining law and order.
