Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday to discuss plans for a transformative vision titled “Viksit Delhi@2047”, aimed at developing the national capital into a model global city by India’s centenary of independence.
According to officials, L-G Sandhu briefed the Prime Minister at his office about his experience at the Lok Niwas and outlined steps to achieve the objectives of PM Modi’s vision for Delhi’s long-term development. Sandhu shared details of infrastructure, governance, and civic initiatives planned under the initiative. He confirmed the meeting on X, stating, “Called on Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji earlier today.”
Earlier this month, on March 13, Sandhu had also called on President Droupadi Murmu to discuss matters related to the national capital. Posting on X, he said, “Honoured to call on Hon’ble President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu ji and receive her guidance for the road ahead. Grateful for her encouragement.”

During his first weeks in office since assuming charge on March 11, the L-G has engaged in multiple initiatives, including reviewing security, sanitation, and health preparedness with officials. Following a meeting with Rupesh Kumar Thakur, Secretary (Health), and Prashant Goel, Additional Chief Secretary (Food and Civil Supplies), he highlighted on X the importance of “preparedness, coordination and effective response.” He also interacted with Delhi Police and Municipal officials to strengthen governance coordination.
Sandhu has also held discussions with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and her Cabinet colleagues at Lok Niwas. In these meetings, the Chief Minister apprised the L-G of ongoing initiatives aimed at building a “#ViksitDilli.” Lok Niwas noted that Sandhu “underlined key challenges and opportunities, and the collective resolve to develop Delhi as a global capital aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision.”
In addition to official engagements, Sandhu shared glimpses of his visits to Delhi’s public spaces, including Amrit Udyan on Rashtrapati Bhavan premises, where he appreciated the spring blooms and interactions with local residents. His approach reflects an effort to combine urban development, governance reforms, and public engagement under the broader “Viksit Delhi@2047” initiative.
