The Delhi government has unveiled a transformative push for digital education, announcing free i7 laptops for 1,200 meritorious Class 10 students and the establishment of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) labs in 175 government schools. Education Minister Ashish Sood, speaking at a press conference, described the decisions, made in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, as "historic" steps toward aligning with the National Education Policy.
Under the Mukhya Mantri Digital Education Scheme, costing Rs 8 crore, high-achieving Class 10 students from Delhi government schools will receive i7 laptops to support their digital learning needs. Sood emphasized the initiative’s role in empowering students for a tech-driven future. Additionally, each of the 175 ICT labs, built to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) standards, will be equipped with 40 computers, addressing a critical gap in digital infrastructure.
Sood criticized the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, claiming that none of the 1,074 government schools had functional computer labs during their tenure. He alleged that 907 labs, funded by the Centre’s Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan from 2015 to 2019, were left non-functional under AAP’s rule. To bolster digital education, the government recently signed an MoU with a private organization to set up 100 additional ICT labs under a corporate social responsibility initiative.

This move signals a broader effort to modernize Delhi’s education system, with Gupta’s administration prioritizing technology and academic excellence.
