New Delhi has been placed under one of its tightest security blankets ever as Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to land Thursday evening for a crucial two-day state visit. The national capital has effectively been converted into a fortress, with every strategic location, route, and airspace under multi-agency surveillance to ensure zero vulnerability during the high-profile trip.
More than 5,000 Delhi Police personnel, reinforced by elite SWAT teams, National Security Guard commandos, rooftop snipers, and rapid-response units, have been positioned across the city. Senior officers told PTI that real-time intelligence sharing and minute-to-minute coordination between central and local agencies will track every movement of the Russian president from arrival to departure, leaving nothing to chance.
State-of-the-art anti-drone systems, including jammers and interceptor units, have been activated over key zones, while all designated VVIP convoy routes have undergone repeated sanitisation by bomb squads and canine units. Traffic diversions and public advisories will be rolled out in phases to balance security imperatives with minimal disruption to residents.

Diplomatically, the visit begins with Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosting President Putin for a private dinner at his official residence, underscoring the deep personal rapport between the two leaders. The closed-door engagement is expected to set a candid tone ahead of formal discussions.
The centerpiece is the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit, where both sides will review defence cooperation, energy ties, trade in national currencies, and geopolitical coordination. President Putin will also pay a courtesy call on President Droupadi Murmu, rounding off a packed schedule that reaffirms the enduring strategic partnership between New Delhi and Moscow.
