Five individuals have been arrested in Badhai Kala village, Muzaffarnagar, for allegedly assaulting a 19-year-old Dalit teenager, Gullu, and hurling casteist abuses at him, police reported on Sunday. The incident occurred on Saturday when Gullu was en route to a local shop.
According to Gullu’s complaint, the accused—identified as Azad, Ankur, Nitin, Deepak, and Saurabh—verbally abused him with casteist slurs. When he protested, they physically attacked him. The assault has sparked outrage, highlighting persistent caste-based violence in the region.
Charthawal SHO Jasvir Singh confirmed that a case has been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The accused are in custody, and investigations are ongoing to ensure justice.
