Andhra Pradesh is on alert for another possible cyclonic storm that could approach its coastline on November 3, just days after Cyclone Arnab affected weather conditions in the region. The developing weather system has raised concerns about fresh rainfall and strong winds along the state's coastal districts. Weather authorities are monitoring its movement and intensity to assess the potential impact on coastal areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal will intensify into a deep depression before developing into a cyclonic storm. The system is expected to move west-northwestwards and strengthen further over the west-central Bay of Bengal by November 2. According to the weather department, it could reach the south Andhra Pradesh coast during the early hours of November 3.
The IMD has indicated that the storm could cross the coastline between Nellore and Narsapur on the morning of November 3 as a severe cyclonic storm. Wind speeds are expected to reach 100–110 kmph, with gusts potentially touching 120 kmph during landfall. The system was located approximately 960 km east-southeast of Chennai and 980 km southeast of Visakhapatnam, according to the weather agency's observations.

The approaching system is expected to bring heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across several districts of coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. Isolated areas are likely to experience particularly intense rainfall on November 2 and 3. Odisha is also expected to receive rainfall under the influence of the developing system, with the IMD monitoring its movement and intensity.
Authorities have issued warnings to fishermen as sea conditions are expected to deteriorate across parts of the Bay of Bengal. Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea, while those already operating in affected waters have been urged to return to safer locations. The weather department has cautioned that strong winds and rough seas could pose serious risks to fishing boats and smaller vessels.
The latest warning comes after Cyclone Arnab crossed the Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts on October 28, bringing heavy rainfall and powerful winds. The previous storm caused damage to houses, agricultural fields, trees and electricity infrastructure, while thousands of residents were evacuated from vulnerable areas. Several communities along the coastline are still dealing with the aftermath of the earlier cyclone.
The Andhra Pradesh government has stepped up preparedness measures in view of the possibility of another severe weather event. Officials are focusing on emergency response arrangements, restoration of essential services and maintaining communication networks in vulnerable districts. The IMD is continuing to monitor the developing depression, with its subsequent bulletins expected to provide further clarity on the storm's intensity, movement and potential landfall.
