Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC Pochampally Srinivas Reddy appeared before the Cyberabad police on Friday in connection with a rooster-fight betting case linked to his farmhouse in Moinabad, Rangareddy district. The appearance followed a second notice issued by the Moinabad police, prompted by doubts over documents he submitted earlier.
The investigation stems from a February 11 raid by the Special Operations Team (SOT) and Moinabad police on Reddy’s farmhouse in Tolkatta village. Authorities detained 64 individuals caught betting on rooster fights, seizing 84 roosters, 46 knives, 46 betting coins, 55 cars, and 64 mobile phones. A case was filed under Sections 3 and 4 of the TS Gaming Act and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Reddy has consistently denied any involvement, asserting that the 10-acre property, featuring mango and coconut groves and two rooms, was managed by his nephew, Gnanadev Reddy. He claims Gnanadev leased it to Varra Ramesh Kumar, who then handed it over to Venkatapathi Raju, without his knowledge. “I purchased the land in 2018, but I had no role in its operations or the illegal activities,” Reddy stated, adding that he filed a police complaint against those responsible.
Last month, responding to an initial notice under Section 35 of the BNSS, Reddy provided lease documents to support his claim. However, unconvinced by the paperwork, the police issued a fresh summons, leading to his Friday appearance.
