Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta struck an emotional chord with students on Saturday as she revisited her college days while addressing the annual day of Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Delhi University.
Calling her student years the “golden chapters” of her life, Gupta said every visit to the university makes her feel young again. “Whenever I return to campus, the gap of age and position disappears, and my student days come alive once again,” she said.
She also shared a light-hearted moment, recalling how she could not secure admission to SRCC in 1993 due to its sky-high cut-offs. “Perhaps I had to become the chief minister to come here,” she joked, drawing applause from the crowd.

Gupta painted vivid pictures of canteen chats, classroom banter, late-night exam prep, and walks in Kamla Nagar, memories she described as her “true wealth.”
Reflecting on her student activism, she recalled a harrowing phase when, as president of the Delhi University Students’ Union, she sustained serious burn injuries during a protest. “I endured pain for more than a month but never gave up. I am accustomed to battling storms… I am not one to fear any demonic force,” she said firmly.
Encouraging students to value their experiences beyond nostalgia, Gupta noted, “Every small or big incident shapes your journey ahead. The lessons of student life give you courage to lead, stay sensitive, and fulfil responsibilities towards society.”
