The Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand has been suspended for two days due to landslides blocking pilgrimage routes and warnings of heavy rainfall across the state. The decision was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of pilgrims travelling to the revered shrines amid deteriorating weather conditions. Garhwal Commissioner Anand Swaroop announced that the pilgrimage would remain suspended on Tuesday and Wednesday.

He said several sections of the Char Dham routes had been affected by landslides, while the weather department had issued alerts predicting heavy rainfall in different parts of Uttarakhand. Officials said the pilgrimage would resume only after weather conditions improve and affected routes are inspected and declared safe for movement. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and carrying out assessments to prevent risks to pilgrims and local residents.

Continuous rainfall since Monday night has disrupted normal life in several parts of Uttarakhand, with concerns rising over flash floods, landslides and damage to key roads. The heavy rain has particularly affected routes leading to the Yamunotri shrine, one of the four major pilgrimage sites under the Char Dham Yatra. A portion of the Jankichatti-Yamunotri pedestrian route in Uttarkashi district was damaged on Tuesday after rising water levels in a nearby river weakened the stretch.

The affected area near Ram Mandir has been declared unsafe for pilgrims, according to officials. The administration has advised pilgrims to avoid travelling until the routes are restored and weather conditions become favourable. Rescue and relief teams are monitoring vulnerable areas, while local authorities are working to clear blockages caused by landslides. The weather disruption has also affected regular activities across the state. Schools in five districts of Uttarakhand will remain closed on Wednesday as a precautionary measure following a fresh weather alert issued by authorities.

The Char Dham Yatra attracts thousands of devotees every year who visit the shrines of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. Due to the mountainous terrain of Uttarakhand, the pilgrimage routes are particularly vulnerable to landslides and weather-related disruptions during the monsoon season. Authorities have urged pilgrims to follow official advisories and avoid taking unnecessary risks during adverse weather conditions. The administration said the safety of devotees remains the priority and further decisions regarding the reopening of the pilgrimage routes will depend on ground assessments and weather updates.
