The Delhi Police have launched an investigation following the tragic collapse of a wall and roof at Dargah Sharif Patte Shah near Humayun’s Tomb in Nizamuddin, which killed six people and injured five on August 15, 2025. The incident, occurring around 3:30 pm amid heavy rainfall, has raised concerns about structural safety at the historic site adjacent to the 16th-century Mughal-era garden-tomb commissioned by Bega Begum.
A senior police officer confirmed that a case has been registered under sections 290 (negligent conduct with respect to building maintenance), 125 (acts endangering human life), and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against unidentified individuals. The dargah’s two rooms—one used by an imam and another as a resting space—were in a dilapidated state, and heavy rain triggered the collapse while 15 people sought shelter inside.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari reported that 12 victims, mostly visitors, were rescued from the debris. Nine were admitted to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where five succumbed to injuries, and one man died at LNJP Hospital. A woman was treated at RML Hospital. The deceased include Swaroop Chand (79), with the remaining victims’ identities pending confirmation. The injured—Md Shameem, Aryan, Gudiya, Rafat Parveen, and Rani (65)—are stable, according to Delhi Fire Services.
