The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed three First Information Reports (FIRs) to investigate alleged irregularities in the Noida Sports City projects, spanning 2011 to 2014, which ballooned into a Rs 9000-crore scam, officials said Friday. Acting on Allahabad High Court directives, the agency targeted real estate firms Logix Infra Developers Pvt Ltd, Xanadu Estates Pvt Ltd, and Lotus Green Constructions Pvt Ltd, along with their directors and unnamed Noida Authority officials, followed by coordinated raids in Delhi and Noida.
The ambitious Sports City initiative, launched in Noida’s sectors 78, 79, and 150, aimed to create world-class sports facilities alongside residential and commercial zones. However, a CBI official alleged that post-allotment, developers breached multiple conditions in collusion with Noida Authority officials, causing an estimated Rs 9000-crore loss to the state exchequer while funneling undue profits to select builders. The agency pointed to a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report that flagged these lapses, yet no corrective action was taken by the authorities at the time.
The CBI’s search operations uncovered incriminating documents and digital evidence, signaling a deep dive into the nexus between developers and officials. No immediate statements have emerged from the named companies. The probe follows a February 2025 High Court order dismissing pleas from developers seeking protection from Noida Authority’s recovery efforts, with the court slamming the “dirty nexus” that undermined the project’s intent.
This escalation marks a significant step in unraveling one of Uttar Pradesh’s largest financial scandals, with the CBI now tasked to expedite justice in a case that has lingered unresolved for over a decade.
