In an extraordinary display of bravery, the Border Security Force (BSF) deployed helicopters to rescue 45 civilians trapped in a flooded village in the Akhnoor sector near Jammu on Wednesday, officials reported. The high-risk mission was launched as floodwaters from the overflowing Chenab River, surging well above its 42-foot evacuation level, inundated Fathu Kotli village in the Garkhal area.
Local police, along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), struggled to reach the marooned residents due to the rapidly rising waters. As the situation grew dire, senior police and civil officials arrived at the scene early Wednesday morning after reports of the flooding. With ground rescue efforts thwarted, the administration urgently called on the BSF for aerial support.
Undeterred by relentless rainfall, the BSF’s helicopter team executed three daring sorties, successfully evacuating all 45 trapped individuals, including women and children, to safety. The operation has been hailed as a testament to the BSF’s swift response and commitment to saving lives in crisis.
