The Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a series of coordinated raids across the Kashmir Valley over the past two days, targeting residences and suspected members of banned separatist organizations.
The operations, spanning Srinagar, Baramulla, and Anantnag, are part of ongoing investigations into activities linked to proscribed groups under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Among the high-profile targets was Abdul Gani Bhat, former Hurriyat Conference chief and head of the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (Bhat Group). Police searched his residences in Baramulla and Wazir Bagh, Srinagar. Another key figure, Shabir Ahmad Shah, leader of the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party and currently incarcerated, had his home raided as well.
The operations also extended to properties linked to Masrat Alam Bhat, chief of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, and other prominent separatist leaders, including Ghulam Nabi Sumbji, Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, Ghulam Nabi Wagay, Feroz Ahmad Khan, Mohammad Nazir Khan, Hakeem Abdul Rashid, and Javaid Ahmad Munshi.
The raids focused on organizations such as the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (Bhat Group), Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League (Masrat Alam Group), and Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (Shabir Shah Group), all designated as unlawful under the UAPA.
According to police officials, the searches aim to uncover evidence and disrupt networks tied to these banned outfits, with investigations ongoing in multiple related cases.
The crackdown underscores the authorities’ intensified efforts to curb separatist activities in the region, amid heightened security measures.
