Former Uttar Pradesh minister and BJP leader Dharmendra Kumar Kashyap has indicated that he may leave the party after being overlooked for a Rajya Sabha nomination, adding uncertainty to the political landscape in the Rohilkhand region ahead of the state Assembly elections. Kashyap said on Wednesday that he would make a formal announcement about his political future only after consulting his workers and supporters. His remarks came days after he posted a sunset photograph on Facebook carrying the words “Tata Bye-Bye”, fuelling speculation that he could be preparing to end his association with the BJP.
Kashyap's comments followed the BJP's announcement of its Rajya Sabha candidates from Uttar Pradesh, in which his name did not figure. The decision appears to have prompted questions among his supporters about his next political move, although Kashyap has stopped short of announcing that he is leaving the party. By saying that he would first consult his workers and supporters, the former MP has left open the possibility of a decision being shaped by discussions within his political network. He has also not publicly identified the party he might join, meaning that speculation about his next destination remains unconfirmed.
The Facebook post featuring the phrase “Tata Bye-Bye” gained attention because of its timing. Posted shortly after the BJP's Rajya Sabha nominations were announced, the message was widely interpreted as a signal of dissatisfaction with the party's decision. However, the post itself did not constitute a formal resignation or confirm that Kashyap had decided to join another political organisation. His subsequent remarks have similarly maintained an element of uncertainty, with the former minister indicating that he would speak after taking his supporters into confidence. That distinction is significant because political leaders can use such messages to register disagreement without immediately severing organisational ties.

Kashyap has had a long association with Uttar Pradesh politics and has represented the BJP in Parliament. His political presence is particularly relevant in Rohilkhand, a region where caste combinations, local leadership networks and organisational strength can influence electoral calculations. Any decision by a prominent leader to leave a major party can therefore attract attention beyond the individual involved, especially when Assembly elections are approaching. At the same time, the eventual political impact of Kashyap's possible departure would depend on whether he actually leaves the BJP, which political platform he chooses, and how his supporters respond to the move.
The Rajya Sabha nomination process has also highlighted the importance of balancing seniority, organisational considerations and electoral representation while selecting candidates. Being denied a nomination does not necessarily mean that a leader's political career within a party has ended, and Kashyap's current position remains fluid. His decision to consult workers before making an announcement suggests that he is assessing the response within his support base before taking a final step. Until a formal statement is made, reports about his departure or a possible switch to another party remain speculation rather than an established political development.
For the BJP, the episode comes at a politically sensitive time in Uttar Pradesh, where parties are preparing for the next Assembly election and seeking to consolidate support across different social groups and regions. For Kashyap, the immediate question is whether dissatisfaction over the Rajya Sabha decision will translate into a formal break with the party. His statement indicates that the answer may depend on consultations with supporters in the coming days. Until then, the “Tata Bye-Bye” message and his comments have kept attention focused on his next move, without providing confirmation of where he intends to go or whether he will ultimately leave the BJP.
