All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) candidate Mohammad Kalamuddin was arrested in Jehanabad on Tuesday, shortly after submitting his nomination papers for the Jehanabad seat. The arrest stemmed from a pending warrant in an attempted murder case, confirmed by Kako police station SHO Rahul Kumar. Supporters of Kalamuddin, a resident of Zafarganj in Jehanabad town, protested outside the Jehanabad sadar police station, claiming a political conspiracy. Senior officers intervened to restore order. Kalamuddin, who complained of chest pain and uneasiness, was later shifted to Patna Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
This marks the latest in a series of candidate arrests disrupting the election landscape. On Monday, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) nominee Mukesh Shah from Sasaram in Rohtas district was detained immediately after filing his papers. Shah, from Balapur village under Kargahar police station, was handed over to Jharkhand police for a 21-year-old case (No. 320/2004) involving dacoity, armed robbery, and criminal conspiracy under IPC Sections 395, 397, and 120B.

Garhwa SP Aman Kumar stated Shah had been absconding for over two decades, with a non-bailable warrant issued by the Garhwa Civil Court. Jharkhand police records reveal at least 20 pending cases against him, including bank robberies and Arms Act violations. A permanent arrest warrant was issued in 2018 after he failed to appear in court for a 2004 robbery at Chiraunjia More. RJD insiders described the arrest as an embarrassment that has hampered their campaign in Sasaram, though no official party statement has been released.
Last week, CPI-ML (Liberation) candidate Jitendra Paswan was arrested from Gopalganj. With polls scheduled for November 6 and 11, police have ramped up operations to execute outstanding warrants against those with criminal records, intensifying the pre-election crackdown.
