The Bihar Assembly has reinstated BJP MLA Mishri Lal Yadav from Alinagar after the Patna High Court set aside his earlier conviction in a 2019 assault case, according to a Vidhan Sabha secretariat notification issued late Wednesday. The decision follows the High Court’s July 18 ruling, which nullified judgments from both the trial and appellate courts.
Yadav was disqualified after a May 27, 2025, verdict by the Darbhanga MP/MLA Court, which sentenced him and his associate Suresh Yadav to two years in prison and a Rs 1 lakh fine each for assaulting Umesh Mishra on January 29, 2019. The case stemmed from an FIR filed by Mishra, a Samaila village resident, alleging an attack by Yadav and his aides outside his home. Earlier, in February 2025, the duo faced a three-month sentence and a Rs 500 fine for voluntarily causing hurt under IPC Section 323, but the sentence was extended after Mishra’s plea was accepted.
Yadav, who appealed the convictions, expressed relief, stating, “I am happy that I have got justice. I was implicated in a false case under a conspiracy, but truth has won.” The reinstatement boosts the BJP’s strength in the Bihar Assembly ahead of the 2025 elections. Yadav, a former Vikassheel Insaan Party member who joined the BJP in 2022, aims to contest the upcoming polls on the party’s symbol.
