Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Wednesday paid tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack on its first anniversary, reaffirming India’s policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism. In a message posted on social media platform X, the Chief Minister expressed deep condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the incident and said the nation continues to stand in solidarity with them.
Recalling the attack, Patel said the memory of the incident remains painful and serves as a reminder of the need for continued vigilance against terrorism. He reiterated that India remains firmly committed to eliminating terror threats in all forms, describing it as a collective resolve shared by the country’s citizens.
The attack, which took place on April 22 last year in the Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, targeted tourists in a remote meadow accessible only by foot or horseback. Heavily armed militants opened indiscriminate fire on civilians, killing at least 26 people and injuring several others. The incident drew widespread condemnation across the country and internationally.

Following the attack, security agencies launched extensive counter-terror operations across south Kashmir. Intelligence-based investigations indicated the involvement of militants linked to Pakistan-based groups. The incident also triggered a large-scale security response, including intensified surveillance, combing operations, and increased deployment of security forces in sensitive areas.
CM Patel, in his statement, stressed that India’s approach towards terrorism remains uncompromising. He said the country is committed to a “zero tolerance” policy and will continue efforts to ensure the complete eradication of terrorist networks. He added that the unity of 140 crore Indians strengthens the nation’s resolve in this fight against terrorism.
In the aftermath of the attack, security forces carried out sustained operations aimed at dismantling militant infrastructure in the region. Over time, those involved in the incident were tracked through intelligence-led efforts and neutralised in separate encounters. Authorities continue to maintain heightened security in Jammu and Kashmir to prevent similar incidents and ensure stability in the region.
