India on Wednesday marked one year since the Pahalgam terror attack, remembering the 26 civilians killed in one of the most brutal assaults on tourists in recent years. On the anniversary, top constitutional leaders reiterated the country’s firm resolve to combat terrorism and honour the memory of the victims.
President Droupadi Murmu paid tribute to those who lost their lives, describing the incident as a heinous act that remains deeply etched in the nation’s collective memory. In her message posted on social media platform X, she expressed condolences to the bereaved families and said the entire nation stands in solidarity with them. She emphasised that such acts of terror cannot weaken India’s commitment to peace, unity, and national harmony, adding that the country remains determined to defeat terrorism in all its forms.
Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan also marked the anniversary with a tribute to the victims, calling the attack a gruesome and dastardly act. He said the innocent lives lost will always be remembered and expressed support for the families still coping with the loss. Reaffirming India’s national position, he stated that such brutality cannot shake the country’s resolve to uphold peace, unity, and human values, while continuing efforts to combat terrorism.

The Pahalgam terror attack took place on April 22, 2025, when armed terrorists targeted tourists in the region and killed 26 people. The assault was attributed to The Resistance Front, an offshoot of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, according to official accounts. The attackers reportedly identified victims based on religion, forcing them to recite religious declarations before targeting non-Muslims.
Among the deceased were 25 tourists and one local pony ride operator who attempted to intervene and protect visitors. Several victims were newly married, and many were shot at close range in front of their families, making the attack particularly traumatic and widely condemned across the country.
In the aftermath of the attack, India launched “Operation Sindoor” on May 6–7, carrying out what officials described as a focused and non-escalatory strike against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation was presented as part of India’s broader zero-tolerance approach toward terrorism, aimed at neutralising threats while maintaining strategic restraint.
