Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) will establish a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Umaria, Raisen district, to produce Vande Bharat, Amrit Bharat, and metro rail coaches, aligning with the 'Make in India' initiative. The Rs 1,800 crore project, named BRAHMA (BEML Rail Hub for Manufacturing), will have its foundation stone laid on August 10 by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, with Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan present and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw joining virtually.
Located on 148 acres in Goharganj tehsil, the facility is set to transform Bhopal’s industrial landscape, generating approximately 5,000 direct and indirect jobs. Initially producing 125-200 coaches annually, BEML aims to scale up to 1,100 coaches within five years, positioning Madhya Pradesh as a key player in India’s rail manufacturing sector. The plant, near Bhojpur in Chouhan’s Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency, will also foster ancillary industries in Bhopal and Raisen, supplying materials to BEML.
“This is a landmark step towards a self-reliant India,” Yadav said, emphasizing the project’s role in enhancing national rail infrastructure and global competitiveness. BEML, a 'Schedule A' company under the Ministry of Defence, is a leader in defence, rail, mining, and construction, with a proven track record of manufacturing over 18,000 mainline passenger coaches and 850 Electrical Multiple Units for Indian Railways.
The BRAHMA facility will further India’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat by producing advanced, indigenously designed trainsets, reducing reliance on imports.
