Students in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are expected to enjoy multiple school holidays in August 2026, with weekends, Independence Day and festival-related breaks creating two extended holiday periods during the month. If all scheduled holidays are observed, schools could remain closed for six days within a span of 10 days. However, students and parents are advised to confirm the holiday schedule with their respective schools, as some dates may vary based on government notifications and institutional decisions.

The first extended break is likely to fall between August 8 and August 10. August 8 is the second Saturday, which is a holiday for many schools and colleges, followed by the regular Sunday holiday on August 9. The Bonalu festival is also being celebrated on the same day. On August 10, the Telangana government has declared a holiday for Rangam, the traditional ritual observed a day after Bonalu, according to the official holiday calendar. In Andhra Pradesh, educational activities on August 8 may also be affected due to the Manyam Bandh called by the Adivasi Joint Action Committee (JAC) over the implementation of tribal rights in agency areas.

Another extended holiday period is expected from August 15 to August 17. Schools will observe Independence Day on August 15 with the customary flag-hoisting ceremony, after which regular classes are generally not conducted. This will be followed by the weekly Sunday holiday on August 16. August 17 marks Naga Panchami, which is listed as an optional holiday, meaning its observance will depend on notifications issued by the state governments and decisions taken by individual schools and educational institutions.

According to Telangana's official academic calendar, schools are scheduled to have 22 working days during August 2026. For students of Class I, the School Preparation Module will continue until August 28, while the regular academic syllabus is set to begin from August 29. The academic calendar has been designed to ensure a smooth transition for young learners into formal classroom instruction.

Schools across Telangana have also been instructed to organise a range of activities to mark Independence Day celebrations. These include games, sports events, essay writing, elocution and other competitions aimed at encouraging student participation and promoting patriotic values. While the holiday calendar provides students with several breaks during the month, authorities have advised parents and students to stay updated through official school communications regarding any changes to the schedule.
