Health authorities in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have urged the public not to panic despite a recent rise in COVID-19 cases, stating that the current increase remains under close surveillance and does not indicate a more severe phase of the pandemic. Officials in both states have strengthened monitoring and preparedness measures while reiterating that existing health infrastructure is equipped to manage the situation.

In Telangana, Director of Public Health and Family Welfare Dr. B. Ravinder Nayak said the increase in infections is a mild seasonal uptick, similar to the trend observed during the same period last year. In a COVID-19 and seasonal influenza advisory issued on Friday, he said there is no evidence of increased disease severity or the emergence of a new Variant of Concern. He added that the state continues to monitor the situation in coordination with the Government of India and is following surveillance protocols issued by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Health officials have advised elderly citizens and individuals with underlying medical conditions to take basic precautions, including avoiding crowded or poorly ventilated places and following appropriate respiratory hygiene measures. Authorities noted that these recommendations are also relevant during the ongoing influenza season, when respiratory illnesses are more common. The Union Health Ministry has also stated that there is no immediate cause for concern, citing assessments conducted by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, and other expert agencies.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh has also reported an increase in COVID-19 cases, with three new infections each detected in East Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts. The latest cases have taken the total number of active infections in the state to 32. According to health officials, COVID-19 has claimed four lives in Andhra Pradesh so far. In response, the state Health Department has intensified precautionary measures and directed government hospitals to remain fully prepared for testing, treatment and patient management.

To strengthen healthcare readiness, Andhra Pradesh has ensured the availability of testing kits, medicines, personal protective equipment (PPE), and other essential medical supplies. A total of 255 dedicated COVID-19 beds have been kept ready across 17 teaching hospitals, while secondary-level hospitals have been instructed to earmark isolation beds for patients if required. Officials in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have emphasised that the situation remains under control and have appealed to the public to follow health advisories without giving in to panic.
