Authorities in Assam on Tuesday published the final electoral roll ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, marking the conclusion of the Special Revision (SR) exercise conducted by the Election Commission of India (ECI). The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Assam confirmed the updated voter list includes 2,49,58,139 electors, reflecting near gender parity in the state.
The final roll comprises 1,24,82,213 male voters, 1,24,75,583 female voters, and 343 voters in the third gender category. Unlike the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in 12 other states and union territories, Assam’s SR was conducted through a door-to-door verification process, rather than relying on form submissions. A total of 29,656 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) were deployed across the state for this purpose.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that an “extensive” Special Intensive Revision (SIR) will be carried out in Assam following the Assembly elections, reinforcing the state’s focus on maintaining an accurate and inclusive voter database. The finalisation of the roll follows a comprehensive house-to-house verification conducted between November 22 and December 20, 2025.

The draft electoral roll, published on December 27, 2025, initially listed 2,52,01,624 voters. Following the verification and claims-objections process, approximately 2.43 lakh voters were excluded from the draft list. Combined with previous deletions, the total number of removed entries now stands at around 13 lakh, ensuring a cleaner electoral database.
Voters were given the opportunity to file claims or objections for inclusion, deletion, or correction of entries. All submissions were examined and resolved in accordance with ECI guidelines. Appeals against decisions can be filed with the District Magistrate within 15 days, with a second appeal available before the CEO within 30 days.
Election officials stated that the Special Revision exercise has strengthened the integrity of Assam’s electoral roll. This updated voter list will serve as the base roll for the 2026 Assembly elections, providing a reliable and inclusive framework to ensure free and fair voting across the state.
