Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma unleashed a fiery warning on Tuesday, targeting All India Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind President Mahmood Asad Madani. Speaking at an event in Hojai, Sarma declared that Madani would face arrest if he dared to "cross his limits" while inspecting eviction sites in Goalpara district.
Sarma dismissed Madani’s influence, stating, “Who is Madani? A God? His bravado only shines under Congress rule. I’m the CM, not him, and I’m not scared!” The sharp remarks came after Madani visited Goalpara’s eviction zones on Monday and held a press conference on Tuesday, urging the Assam government to adhere to Supreme Court guidelines during eviction drives.
Sarma, unyielding, took a jab at Madani’s visit: “I let him see the reality of land encroachment. Now he won’t dare encourage it. He’s seen what happens.” The CM emphasised that the BJP government fears no one, asserting that encroachments on forest land, Village Grazing Reserves (VGR), and Professional Grazing Reserves (PGR) will face strict action.

“They know the BJP now,” Sarma said, accusing Madani of being a “valueless” figure whose relevance fades outside Congress regimes. The warning underscores the Assam government’s tough stance on land encroachment, setting the stage for a heated showdown with the Islamic scholar.
