Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly (APLA) Speaker Tesam Pongte issued a passionate call for youth to drive nation-building during a lecture titled ‘APLA@50 Outreach Connect’ at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) near Itanagar on Monday. The event, part of APLA’s golden jubilee celebrations, highlighted the critical role of young citizens in shaping India’s future.
Pongte urged the youth to balance safeguarding their rights with fulfilling civic duties, emphasizing that understanding these responsibilities is vital for a thriving democracy. “An aware and responsible citizenry is the bedrock of progress,” echoed Rajiv Gandhi University Faculty of Law dean in-charge Topi Basar, who stressed the importance of constitutional rights and active participation in creating a just society.
Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso reflected on Arunachal’s developmental strides, noting significant improvements in road infrastructure and connectivity. “These advancements have bridged communities, boosted economic activities, and enhanced access to remote regions,” he said, underscoring the state’s transformative journey over the past five decades.

NERIST Director Prof. Narendranath S and APLA Additional Secretary Agaab Mossang also spoke, reinforcing the need for youth involvement in governance. Organized with Rajiv Gandhi University and NERIST, the event celebrated 50 years of legislative progress while inspiring young Arunachalis to contribute to holistic development through civic awareness and responsibility.
