Over 4,161 farmers in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Subansiri district celebrated the release of the 20th instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme on Saturday, part of a nationwide disbursement of ₹20,500 crore to 9.7 crore farmers by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi.
The event, live-streamed at Hapoli’s Abotani Hall, drew 450 local beneficiaries, joined by Deputy Commissioner Oli Perme, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Pura Dollo, and District Agriculture Officer Tasso Butung.
Launched in 2019, the PM-KISAN scheme provides ₹6,000 annually to eligible landholding farmer families in three ₹2,000 instalments, directly credited to bank accounts. In Lower Subansiri, farmers like Taba Teni and Pura Yana hailed the scheme for easing financial burdens, supporting crop cultivation, and funding household needs.
The initiative, backed by a ₹1.75 lakh crore outlay since inception, has bolstered agricultural stability in Arunachal, where 70% of the population depends on farming. The state has registered 94,000 farmers under the scheme, with ongoing efforts to include more.
