Global alarm bells are ringing as Iran and Saudi Arabia scramble to defuse escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the devastating Pahalgam terror attack, with the world watching closely for India’s next move.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi extended an olive branch to both nations, emphasizing their deep ties. "India and Pakistan are brotherly neighbors of Iran, enjoying relations rooted in centuries-old cultural and civilizational ties. Like other neighbors, we consider them our foremost priority," Araghchi posted on social media. Quoting Persian poet Saadi, he added, "Human Beings are members of a whole In creation of one essence and soul If one member is inflicted with pain Other members uneasy will remain." Tehran, he said, is ready to mediate to "forge greater understanding at this difficult time."

Saudi Arabia, equally rattled, jumped into the fray. Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud held urgent calls with India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar. Jaishankar confirmed the dialogue, noting on X, "Had a telecon with Foreign Minister @FaisalbinFarhan of Saudi Arabia. Discussed the Pahalgam terrorist attack and its cross-border linkages."

Pakistan’s foreign office revealed that Dar briefed Al Saud on decisions from Pakistan’s National Security Committee, triggered by India’s aggressive measures. Dar "cautioned" against further escalation and vowed Pakistan would "respond firmly to any aggression."

The Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 civilian lives, has pushed India-Pakistan relations to the brink. India retaliated swiftly on Wednesday, suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the Attari border crossing, and downgrading diplomatic ties, citing Pakistan’s links to the attack.

Pakistan hit back Thursday, banning Indian flights from its airspace and halting all trade, including via third countries. It rejected India’s treaty suspension, warning that any attempt to block water flows would be treated as an "act of war."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a charged rally in Madhubani, Bihar, on Thursday, struck a defiant tone. “Friends, today from the soil of Bihar, I say to the whole world India will identify, track, and punish every terrorist and their backers,” he declared. “We will pursue them to the ends of the earth. India’s spirit will never be broken by terrorism. Terrorism will not go unpunished.”

He vowed justice, adding, “Every effort will be made to ensure that justice is done. The entire nation is firm in this resolve. Everyone who believes in humanity is with us. I thank the people of various countries and their leaders who have stood with us in these times.”

As fears of military escalation loom, the international community holds its breath. Iran and Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic flurry underscores the high stakes, with India’s vowed pursuit of justice keeping the region—and the world—on high alert.
