The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) launched a major relief effort, dispatching trucks loaded with essential supplies from Delhi to flood-stricken Punjab, where devastating floods have claimed 30 lives and affected over 3.5 lakh people. Leading the initiative, AAP’s Delhi state president, Saurabh Bharadwaj, accompanied the first consignment, marking the start of a sustained campaign to support Punjab’s flood victims. The effort, directed by AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, has mobilized party leaders, MLAs, MPs, and citizens across Delhi to contribute to the relief operations.
In a post on X, Kejriwal emphasized the scale of the response, stating, “Every day, our leaders and common people will head to Punjab with relief materials to serve those in need. The entire country stands with Punjab.” He highlighted contributions from Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and businessmen, noting widespread national support for the crisis-hit state. Punjab AAP chief Manish Sisodia echoed this sentiment, praising party workers for coming forward “with open hearts” to assist flood-affected communities.
Bharadwaj, speaking to reporters before departing Delhi, underscored Punjab’s history of resilience and generosity, saying, “Our Punjabi and Sikh brothers are the first to open langars during any crisis, be it a natural calamity or war. Today, Punjab is reeling from devastating floods, with massive losses to property, cattle, and farmland. We are sending the first batch of relief materials, and I’m personally accompanying the supplies as directed by Arvind Kejriwal.”

The floods, described as Punjab’s worst in decades, have impacted all 23 districts of the state, up from an initial 12, according to a state government bulletin. The deluge has caused widespread destruction, submerging homes, farmlands, and infrastructure, and displacing thousands. AAP’s relief efforts include essentials like food, clothing, medicines, and temporary shelter materials, with plans to send additional consignments daily. The party has also set up coordination centers in Delhi to streamline donations and logistics.
The initiative has garnered praise for its swift response, with AAP workers collaborating with Punjab’s state government, which is working alongside ministers and other political parties to provide relief. Social media platforms like X have been abuzz with messages of solidarity, as citizens and organizations across India pledge support. As Punjab battles this unprecedented crisis, AAP’s campaign underscores a collective national effort to aid recovery and rebuild lives in the flood-ravaged state.
