A balcony slab collapse in the Sukhram Nagar slum of Amraiwadi, Ahmedabad, on Wednesday morning triggered a massive rescue operation, officials said. At approximately 8:15 am, a portion of the G+2 residential building’s balcony gave way, blocking the main access route and trapping residents inside.
Alarmed by the debris and restricted movement, 58 residents were trapped until fire brigade personnel arrived on the scene. Emergency services deployed four rescue vehicles, including an emergency tender, a mini fire fighter, two first responder vehicles, and an ambulance to handle the situation.
A 22-member team, including 15 firemen, supervisors, drivers, and a divisional officer, worked swiftly to clear the debris. Their coordinated efforts successfully evacuated all trapped residents, preventing further casualties in the densely populated slum area.
