A tragic accident unfolded on the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway early Monday as dense fog led to a massive pile-up involving nearly 20 vehicles. The collision occurred around 5:00 am and resulted in the deaths of four people, including two police personnel. At least 15 to 20 others sustained serious injuries, according to initial reports.
Authorities said extremely poor visibility due to thick fog was the primary cause of the accident. The incident reportedly began when two overloaded dumper trucks collided. Moments later, a truck carrying guavas rammed into the crashed vehicles from behind, worsening the situation.
The crash escalated when the guava-laden truck overturned, spilling fruit across the expressway. The scattered produce made the road slippery, and combined with low visibility, prevented oncoming vehicles from braking in time. This triggered a chain reaction that ultimately involved 20 to 25 vehicles.

Emergency response teams, including police, ambulances, and rescue personnel, were rushed to the site. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals, with several reported to be in critical condition. Bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem examinations, while traffic movement on the expressway was temporarily suspended and later restored.
The incident follows a series of fog-related accidents reported across Haryana on Sunday. In Rohtak, a collision involving 35–40 vehicles injured multiple people, while similar pile-ups were reported in Hisar and Rewari involving buses, trucks, cars, and motorcycles on national highways.
Officials have urged motorists to exercise extreme caution while driving in foggy conditions. Reduced speed, increased following distance, and heightened alertness are being emphasized as essential safety measures to prevent such devastating accidents during the winter season.
