Torrential rain has disrupted normal life across Himachal Pradesh, with 185 roads closed in different districts, while the India Meteorological Department's Shimla office has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on Monday and Tuesday. The State Emergency Operation Centre reported that the adverse weather had also disrupted 77 water supply schemes and damaged or affected 104 power transformers as of Saturday morning.

Mandi has recorded the highest number of road closures, with 92 roads blocked, followed by Kullu with 48. Chamba and Shimla have reported 14 blocked roads each, while nine roads are closed in Sirmaur, five in Kangra and three in Una. Authorities are monitoring the situation as continued rainfall increases the risk of further disruption to road connectivity and essential services in several parts of the hill state.

The prolonged monsoon has also resulted in significant casualties and damage across Himachal Pradesh. Since the monsoon began on June 30, 65 people have died in rain-related incidents, including 14 deaths linked to landslides and one caused by a flash flood. The state has suffered estimated losses of around Rs 834 crore due to weather-related incidents, according to officials. The continuing rainfall has kept several vulnerable areas under close observation.

The weather department has forecast a wet spell across Himachal Pradesh until August 14, with more rainfall expected in the coming days. Light to moderate rain was reported in several parts of the state from Friday evening. Dharamshala recorded the highest rainfall at 48.1 mm, followed by Bajaura at 31.5 mm, Manali at 22 mm, Slapper at 21.8 mm and Bhuntar at 21 mm. Other locations that received significant rainfall included Murari Devi, Kothi and Jogindernagar.

The latest orange alert indicates the possibility of intense rainfall at isolated locations as the wet spell continues. With roads already blocked across multiple districts and disruptions reported to water and electricity infrastructure, authorities are continuing to assess the impact of the weather. Residents in vulnerable areas are likely to face further challenges if heavy rainfall persists, particularly in districts such as Mandi and Kullu that have recorded the highest number of road closures.
