Officials announced that 100 students from the eight Northeastern states—Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura—participated in an immersive educational tour of key Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) centres in Bengaluru. This initiative, part of the North East Students' Programme for Awareness, Reach and Knowledge on Space (NE-SPARKS), is a collaborative effort by ISRO, the North Eastern Council (NEC), and state governments to inspire and educate young minds about space science and technology.
The third batch of this program, conducted on July 24-25, 2025, offered students a two-day exploration of ISRO’s facilities. On the first day, the students visited the ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) and the Indian Deep Space Network (IDSN), where they interacted with senior scientists and gained insights into deep space communication systems critical to space missions. The second day featured a tour of the U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), where students learned about the intricate processes of satellite integration and testing.
The visit concluded at the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium with a screening of a documentary on India’s ambitious ‘Gaganyaan Mission,’ the nation’s first human spaceflight program, sparking excitement about India’s advancements in space exploration. The NE-SPARKS initiative aims to engage 800 students across eight batches, fostering a new generation of space enthusiasts and potential scientists from the Northeast.
