A 19-year-old youth has been arrested in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district for allegedly murdering a man following a dispute linked to online gaming-related debt, police said on Monday. The incident took place in the Betma police station area, where the victim’s body was discovered earlier this month.
According to Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rajendra Kumar Verma, the deceased was identified as Sameer Patel, 32, whose body was found on May 7. Police launched an investigation soon after recovering the body and later acted on a tip-off that led them to suspect Ramzan Patel, a 19-year-old acquaintance of the victim.
During questioning, Ramzan allegedly confessed to the crime, police said. Preliminary investigation revealed that both the accused and the victim were involved in online gaming activities and had developed a financial dispute connected to money won and lost during gameplay. Investigators said the conflict had intensified over unpaid dues linked to the gaming transactions.

Police said Ramzan had allegedly lost nearly Rs 10 lakh to Sameer through online games over a period of time. While he had reportedly repaid around Rs 7 lakh, an argument broke out regarding the remaining Rs 3 lakh. According to investigators, the confrontation turned violent, following which Ramzan allegedly attacked Sameer with a stone and struck him on the head, leading to his death.
Officials said the police are now conducting a detailed forensic and digital investigation into the case. The mobile phones of both the accused and the deceased are being examined to determine the extent of their involvement in online gaming activities and whether other individuals may also have been connected to the transactions or disputes.
The case has once again highlighted growing concerns over financial losses and disputes linked to online gaming platforms. Law enforcement agencies in several states have in recent years reported an increase in crimes, fraud cases and personal conflicts arising out of online betting and gaming-related debts, particularly among young users.
