Following a celebrated premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound is poised for its next milestone with a screening at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), running from September 4 to 14. The film, executive produced by Hollywood icon Martin Scorsese, stars Vishal Jethwa, Ishaan Khatter, and Janhvi Kapoor, and has already garnered significant acclaim.
Homebound tells the poignant story of two childhood friends from a small North Indian village, portrayed by Khatter and Jethwa, who pursue a police job to reclaim the dignity they’ve long been denied. Inspired by journalist Basharat Peer’s article during the pandemic, the film explores themes of ambition, desperation, and the fragility of lifelong bonds. Produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, the film recently won Ghaywan the Best Director award at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.
Vishal Jethwa, recognized for his roles in Mardaani 2 and Salaam Venky, expressed his excitement about the global recognition. “The overwhelming response at Cannes was a dream, and now heading to TIFF feels surreal. I’m truly grateful for this journey and hope the TIFF audience embraces Homebound with the same warmth,” said the 31-year-old actor.
